Quincy, IL – 1st in Video – Music World, inc. launched new websites this past week for their subsidiaries Your Electronic Warehouse and Discount Golf World. The new designs give a fresh look and feel to the websites, but not just for cosmetic purposes. With the last major overhaul to the two sites being almost 5 years ago, the new website launch offers new features that will also provide a more enjoyable user experience.

Within both sites, 4Electronicwarehouse.com and DiscountGolfWorld.com, customers can now easily browse the product offerings in a much more organized and efficient manner. With tie-ins to social sites such as Facebook and Twitter, users on the sites will now easily be able to share their finds with their friends. Users of the sites will now have easier access to the Electronics Guru and The Modern Golfer blog sections as well. “It has been a long time coming,” says Dennis Boudreau, company CEO. “The new design of our sites will hopefully give us the flexibility to continue to grow into the future and adapt more easily to our customers needs”.

Consumer Interest in Flat-Panel Televisions

Hitachi recently commissioned a study on consumers interest in flat-panel TVs. The study showed that 71% either owned (19%) or wanted (52%) a flat panel television. 78% of the respondants wanted their next TV to have HDTV and 64% wanted a larger television than they have now. 37% wanted 50″ or larger, 23% wanted a 42″ and 35% wanted 35″ or smalller. The most important factors when selecting a new television were picture quality, brand and screen size.

The study also found that in 45% of households, women are responsible for researching consumer electronics purchases, but that 73% of women are confused by the options of buying a flat-panel TV (i.e. DLP, LCD, Plasma, 720p, 1080i, 1080p).

Discount Golf World and Your Electronic Warehouse Featured in Akamai Press Release

Your Electronic Warehouse and DiscountGolfWorld.com were recently featured in an Akamai press release. Akamai is the leading global service provider for accelerating content and applications online. Your Electronic Warehouse and DiscountGolfWorld.com use Akamai to speed up and improve their customer’s shopping experience. In the first month of using Akamai, Your Electronic Warehouse’s conversion rate increased 42% while DiscountGolfWorld’s conversion rate increased 210%. DiscountGolfWorld.com had a higher increase due to the fact that most of its products have multiple styles and images that increase the download time of the page. By using Akamai, this content is cached in data centers around the world. When a customer pulls an image off one of our websites, they are actually pulling that image off the Akamai server that is closest to their geographical location. Akamai is able to reduce the hits to our websever and pull the content from an Akamai sever 84% of the time. Akamai is also able to route around “traffic jams” on the Internet to increase the performance of dynamically created pages. An alternate, optimized route is taken for 79% of our delivered content. This provides an enhanced end-user experience through accelerated, more reliable delivery of our dynamic Web site content, resulting in our higher conversion rates.

Internet Searches Driving Retail Site Traffic

A recent Hitwise report showed that search engines account for 25% of visits to US shopping sites. Google alone accounts for almost 16% of visits to US shopping sites. In the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, Hitwise has Your Electronic Warehouse receiving 46% of it’s traffic from search engines. MySpace’s partnership with Google seems to be working well. MySpace accounted for 3.2% of visits to shopping sites.
